from a full cup.
Grounded Café was created to turn everyday coffee and meals into something bigger.
Designed to provide affordable, high-quality food and coffee for students and the broader community, Grounded is a place where everyone is welcome.
Behind the café is a deeper purpose: every dollar of profit helps support student food security initiatives led by Tasmanian University Student Association (TUSA).
We believe access to good food shouldn’t be a privilege. Yet many students experience food insecurity while studying; skipping meals, reducing grocery costs, or going without essentials simply to get through their studies.
Grounded exists as part of a broader effort to help change that.
A café with purpose.
When you visit Grounded, you are helping support student-focused food programs across lutruwita/Tasmania, including TUSA Food Hubs that provide access to free fresh produce, pantry staples, bread and ready-made meals.
Through our pay-it-forward program, customers can also choose to shout a coffee or meal for a student in need, turning small acts of generosity into meaningful community support.
It’s a simple idea: good food can do good too.
Grounded was built thoughtfully and with sustainability in mind wherever possible.
Much of our furniture was sourced second-hand or repurposed through the University reuse program. Most of our cups, cutlery, books and décor pieces come from second hand shops or were generously donated by students and staff, to give them a second life.
We also prioritise local suppliers, seasonal produce and low-waste practices wherever we can.
For us, sustainability is about creating something community-minded, resourceful and built to last
